Fibula fractures need to be treated surgically. Internal fixation mainly includes two types, that is,extramedullary fixation and intramedullary fixation, which refers to placing the internal fixation outside the medullary cavity or inside the medullary cavity. The external medullary cavity is mostly fixed with screws or titanium plates, and bone plates are more commonly used. The distal fibula plate is laid on the bones, and the fracture segments are fixed with bone screws at both ends. If the cadre of the tibia and fibula is used, the surgical method of intramedullary nail is often used, and a cylindrical intramedullary nail is inserted in the middle of the fracture pulp cavity.
If the bone is fixed with an intramedullary nail,it needs to control the rotation of the two ends, and too much rotational motion is not conducive to fracture healing. So the intramedullary nails are placed on both ends and interlocking screws are put through both ends of the fracture to hold the bone in place so that it doesn't rotate.Internal fixation of fibular fractures includes external medullary fixation represented by plate screw and intramedullary fixation represented by intramedullary nail. The two methods have their own advantages and disadvantages, and different methods are selected according to different fracture sites.Near the metaphyseal, near the proximal or distal end, more plates were selected, near the middle fracture shaft, more intramedullary nails were selected.
